FieldOps

Field operations, on the record

Everything the site did, recorded where it happened.

FieldOps is the app a crew carries into the field. Survey and draw on satellite imagery, collect forms with GPS evidence, post the day to a project timeline, and talk to the team, then keep doing all of it when the signal drops.

What it does

One app for the whole field exercise

The field is usually recorded twice: once in a notebook on site, and again weeks later at a desk, and the two never quite agree. FieldOps records it once, where it happens, with the evidence attached.

Project timelines

The day's work, posted once and kept

Every project has a running record that the whole team can see. Nobody has to collect photos from five phones on Friday.

  • Photographs, video, voice notes, documents and pages in one post
  • Comments, @mentions, likes and saved posts to find it again
  • Readable previews of PDFs, spreadsheets and drawings in the app
  • Posts written offline go out by themselves when there is signal

Forms and data collection

A form that carries its own proof

Build the form once at the office. In the field, each answer is stamped with where and when it was taken, and the photos go with the answer they belong to.

  • Text, choice, number, date, phone, media and more with required fields
  • A fresh GPS fix on every response taken within two minutes
  • Responses on the project map beside the features you drew
  • Export to CSV, GeoJSON, DXF or PDF for whoever needs it next

Messages and calls

One channel for the whole party

Chat and call the people on your projects without swapping numbers or apps. When the line is bad or the languages differ, captions help, and a recorded call files itself in the chat with a transcript.

  • Voice notes with a waveform and a transcript on request
  • Voice and video calls, and group calls for a whole field school
  • Live captions, translated as you talk for mixed-language teams
  • Recorded calls with both voices and who said what

Offline first

The work does not stop at the edge of coverage

Field work happens where the network does not reach: underground, in a valley, thirty kilometres past the last mast. FieldOps is built for that as the normal case, not the exception.

Ready before you leave

Imagery, records, media and documents for a project are kept on the phone.

Every action queued

Posts, responses, drawings and messages made offline are sent in order when the signal returns.

Nothing lost on a bad upload

Media waits on the phone and is retried, so a failed upload is not a lost observation.

Clashes shown honestly

If two people changed the same thing, you choose: keep mine, keep theirs, or merge.

Interoperability

It speaks the formats you already use

Bring existing survey data in, and hand results to GIS, CAD or the statistician in the form they expect.

Files

Every import is previewed on the phone before it is saved.

Who it is for

Wherever measured work happens away from a desk

Survey and geomatics

Parcels, subdivisions, road reserves and setting-out, drawn and checked on site, exported to CAD and GIS.

Construction and site monitoring

Daily progress with photographs and voice notes, documents with versions, and the people on site one call away.

Geology and environment

Outcrops, traverses, samples and boreholes as features with attributes, logged at the station with the photo.

Universities and polytechnics

A field course becomes a project. Students join by link; staff supervise live and mark against the evidence.

Getting started

On site in three steps

Register with your phone

Install the app or open the web app. Give your name, pick a username and confirm your number with the code we text you. No approval to wait for.

Create a project and invite

Name the project, then share its invitation link or invite people by phone number. They join when they accept.

Go to the field

Draw, collect, post and talk. Online or not, the record builds as you work and the team sees it when you are back in range.

Questions

Frequently asked

How much does FieldOps cost?

Creating an account is free, and so is trying it on a project. For plans for teams, firms and institutions, tell us what you need and we will come back to you.

Does it really work without the internet?

Yes, on Android and iPhone. Projects, imagery, forms and media are kept on the phone, and anything you do offline (posts, form responses, drawings, messages) is queued in order and sent when a connection returns. Calls need a connection. The web app needs one too.

Which file formats and coordinate systems are supported?

Import CSV, TXT, DXF, Shapefile (or a zipped set), KML, KMZ and GeoJSON. Export Shapefile, CAD/DXF, KML and coordinate lists, and plans as PDF. Coordinates can be WGS84, UTM with the zone spelled out, Minna belts, or a projection you name.

Who owns the data?

You and your project do. Everything can leave as a file in an open format, at any time. Access to a project is by membership: nobody is added without accepting an invitation.

Do I need an email address?

No. You register and sign in with your phone number and a code sent by text message. Adding an email address to your profile lets us reply to problems you report from the app.

Can I use it on a computer?

Yes. Open app.fieldopsinc.com in a browser and sign in with the same phone number. The phone apps are the ones that work offline.

Is it suitable for teaching?

Yes. Universities and polytechnics use the same tools for field courses: a course becomes a project, students join by link, staff supervise from live trips, and the work is marked against GPS-stamped evidence. Ask us about a pilot.
